Position Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven medicinal chemist to join Atavistik’s Discovery group. This individual will contribute to shape the growing medicinal chemistry organization, drive innovation, and ensure project goals are delivered on time. The individual will play a central role in collaborating with both internal and CRO researchers in enabling new projects for drug discovery at Atavistik. Successful candidates will be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be passionate about science.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Design and synthesize novel small molecules from Hit finding to IND-enabling studies. Prepare, document and trouble-shoot synthetic strategies to discover new small molecule compounds. Able to work independently in a laboratory setting.
  • Provide scientific direction to drive progression of drug discovery projects from screening to development candidate. Contribute to multi-disciplinary teams, utilizing cross-functional data to drive drug discovery strategies in a matrix organization environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in biochemistry, biology, molecular pharmacology, etc. to drive programs to key go/no go decisions.
  • Present scientific results internally in a concise and effective manner, including scientific challenges, and strategy development to address any issues
  • Contribute to foster an inclusive work environment

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or MS/BS in organic chemistry or a related scientific discipline, with >1-3 years (PhD) or >5 Years (MS/BS) drug discovery in the biotech industry. Experience managing a CRO is desirable.
  • Robust knowledge of modern synthetic and purification methods, ability to independently synthesize relevant compounds to address key issues within medicinal chemistry, including structure-based drug discovery (SBDD).
  • Experience using eLN, compound registration and compound analytical characterization (NMR, HPLC, MS).
  • Thrive in a fast-paced matrix organization, learning agility and collaborative approach with cross-functional groups (biophysics, structural biology, modeling, and pharmacology)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to present results in a concise and clear way
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence at all levels.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and desire to succeed in a fast-paced and growing organization
