The AVP of Qualitative Insights & Strategy (Open to Remote) is responsible for the growth of the qualitative practice and increasing profitability. They will collaboratively work with other Practice Leads to establish strong relationships with Key Accounts, increasing their usage of qualitative techniques and expanding the footprint within these accounts. This position has overall responsibility for the qualitative services team, including two (2) direct reports.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Team Leadership

  • Grow the practice through the refinement of go-to-market strategies and the development of new tools, methods, holistic offerings, and innovative techniques
  • Partner with CEO, VP, Product Development & Innovation, and Directors of Insights & Strategy Operations on promoting and directing the execution of qualitative engagements (e.g., groups, IDIs) and workshops (e.g., live immersion, co-creation)
  • Partner with Practice Leads on promoting and selling qualitative engagements (e.g., groups, IDIs) and workshops (e.g., live immersion, co-creation)
  • Establish and meet team goals with input from the CEO and CFO, including the team budget for the next year, sales and profitability targets, team member promotions, raises, new hires, and professional development investments
  • Clearly communicate the creative problem-solving expertise of our approach to qualitative research to both current and prospective clients
  • Act as a subject matter expert and/or ‘go to’ person for a specific area of expertise, stay abreast of industry trends, seek out and bring new techniques and able to apply them to projects
  • Act as qualitative expert and thought leader both internally and externally Continually explore and determine internal viability/potential implementation of innovative qualitative methodologies, platforms, and vendors
  • Communicate internally and to the greater public our thought leadership and expertise through blogs, articles, lunch and learns, webinars, and conferences
  • Write proposals for stand-alone projects and contribute to proposals that have qualitative element (e.g., content, methodology, pricing)
  • Oversee qualitative pricing and profitability
  • Manage the assignment of new projects to the project staff, clearly communicating needs & expectations; this includes working with Client Services for the assignment project team support
  • Vet and manage external moderating contractors, domestic and international
  • Define and successfully deploy best practices for executing and delivering qualitative projects
  • Ensure high client satisfaction as it relates to qualitative work
  • Onboard and mentor new talent, when necessary

Qualitative Practitioner

  • Demonstrate confidence and acts as a trusted advisor when consulting with clients to align on business and research objectives
  • Analyze results and develop engaging, insightful, creative, and customized deliverables, including presentations and workshops
  • Demonstrate expertise across all qualitative approaches, including traditional focus groups, online platforms, as well as co-creation and ideation sessions and workshops
  • Own discussion guide writing, moderating interviews, analysis, and reporting
  • Oversee creation of the screener and recruiting management
  • Effectively communicate with other project team members and external resources
  • Anticipate and identify project problems and finds solutions independently

Sales and Account Management Team

  • Clearly communicate needs & expectations to project staff
  • Partner with clients to ensure project success
  • Provide on-project thought leadership
  • Respond to the needs of both clients and project staff
  • Ensure end-to-end client/project delivery in alignment with project team leading to high client satisfaction with project deliverables
  • Participate in peer reviews in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualitative Services Team

  • Adhere to best practices (e.g., defined approaches, processes, best practices)
  • Take advantage of training and development opportunities
  • Contribute to a team and/or committee for ongoing initiatives
  • Ensure end-to-end client/project delivery in alignment with Sales & Account Management leading to high client satisfaction with project deliverables


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Journalism, Market-Research, Anthropology, Behavioral Psychology)
  • 10+ years of experience in qualitative market research
  • 5+ years of experience selling and directing a qualitative market research business unit
  • 5+ years of team and talent management responsibility
  • Minimum of 4 years experience independently managing moderating duties
  • Advanced in-person, telephone, and online moderating skills with individuals and groups
    Is RIVA trained
  • Proven and documented success in selling qualitative market research products and services
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Experience in market research and a strong knowledge of MR techniques
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent at managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent at establishing and managing relationships with clients, vendors and co-workers
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Self-aware
