The City Clerk’s office manages a variety of administrative duties for the City of Watertown residents and oversee in the City Hall election process. The Head Clerk is responsible in issuing various licenses and official documents, provide information to the public and assist with elections. Under the general guidance of the Assistant City Clerk this position responds to inquiries and provides information to the public and city employees. Responsible for administration of the office, including correspondence and maintenance of files; responsible for maintenance of office equipment. Processes, records, issues and collects fees for a variety of licenses, certificates and permits.  Creates and maintains indexes for department records and records and files UCCs. Reconciles daily receipts and makes deposits. Assists with the annual city census, preparation of the resident book. Prepares annual reports of vital statistics and reports of election results for submission to the Commonwealth. Processes absentee ballots, nomination, and petition papers.  Maintains VRIS and prints voting list. Posts meeting notices and maintains meeting notice calendar for office staff.  Maintains a variety of internal informational listings. Provides information and assistance to employees. Post public meetings on corridor public board for upcoming meeting for committee, public announcements, etc.  Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma; five years of office experience; municipal or customer service experience preferred; Associate’s Degree desirable; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Starting Salary Range: $50,712.12 – $53,800.91/annually dependent upon qualifications and education, plus an excellent benefit package which includes pension, deferred compensation, health insurance 80% City paid premium, paid vacation, sick, personal, and holidays; flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and more.

 

Hours: This is a 37.5 hours a week position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with an hour lunch. Additional hours outside of the normal work week are required during elections.
