FARMERS’ MARKET  and PROGRAM COORDINATOR                                         Watertown Farmers Market (WFM)

The City of Watertown MA seeks a qualified individual to coordinate on-site operations of the seasonal Farmers’ Market and assist with off-season market and Live Well Watertown programs. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in the local food system and food access, healthy living, and community building. Working under the general direction of the Community Wellness Program Manager, the coordinator will assist with preseason market preparation and be responsible for market-day operations and related administrative work during the season. At-market responsibilities include overseeing set-up and breakdown, assisting vendors and customers, monitoring the customer service tent and SNAP/transactions, providing information, enforcing market rules, and ensuring inclusiveness and public safety. Additional work includes coordinating plans and schedules of vendors, guests, volunteers, and specialty programs, maintaining market-day records, and market promotion. Off-season work includes coordination of the SNAP CSA and similar food security programs, Eat Well Watertown, new specialty market events, and assistance with planning and implementation of Live Well programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with Farmers’ Markets, food-related or similar environment, or general event planning required; college degree preferred. Highly organized with strong communication, customer service, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Reliable, friendly, and energetic. Demonstrated experience in managing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience/familiarity with using spreadsheets, on-line survey, and newsletter tools (Google Docs experience preferred), and with social media.

Must be able to stand and/or be mobile for several hours at a time and work outdoors in all weather conditions (including rain); able to lift up to 40lbs; pass CORI and SORI background checks. Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license preferred.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

10 to 15 hours a week. Market Season: mid- June through October, 12:30 pm – 7:30 pm on Wednesdays plus additional hours during the week, schedule TBD. Must be available to work at least 18 weeks of the 20-week season. Off-season hours are flexible, scheduled TBD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College degree and experience with Farmers’ Markets, farm/food-related, or similar setting preferred. Highly organized with strong customer service, problem solving, and communication skills, Reliable, friendly, and energetic. Experience/familiarity with using spreadsheets, on-line survey, and newsletter tools (Google Docs experience preferred), and with social media.

 

SALARY:           $25.00 per hour, this is an at-will non benefitted position.
