The City of Watertown MA (population 35,000) is a thriving diverse community providing full municipal services.  We seek a highly qualified, skilled professional to join the management team as the Deputy City Manager.  This position is a leadership role in the City of Watertown, assisting the City Manager with a variety of complex administrative, budget and technical duties in the daily administration of the City government. The work is performed under the direction of the City Manager in accordance with City ordinances, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. This position serves as the liaison to the various City departments, develops and recommends policies, procedures, regulations and laws to improve City operations and services; provides information and staff support to the City Council in the development of policy initiatives; assists senior management team with preparation of the annual operating budget, long range and financial planning; attends meetings as needed to represent the City Manager; serves in the role of or supervises the staff serving in the role of Community Engagement Officer, and performs similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, or communications is required, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in staff supervision, strategic planning and community engagement preferably in a Massachusetts local government, or equivalent.
