The City of Watertown MA (population 35,000) seeks a highly qualified, skilled professional to join the management team as the Director of Senior Services.  Working under the administrative direction of the City Manager, the Director of Senior Services is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, promoting, and administering programs and services for a diverse population of senior citizens, including a monthly newsletter and calendar of activities, transportation and Senior Shuttle bus services, counseling, information referral, oversees all operations, staff and volunteers at the Senior Center building, and the Watertown Food Pantry.  The successful candidate is responsible for the overall administration of the department and supervising department personnel ensuring compliance with mandates of federal, state and local ordinances, regulations and Council on Aging Board policies.  Responsible for the department budget and financial oversight; researching, writing and managing grants; and for submitting annual application and reporting for state formula grant. Works closely with department heads, other City employees, the Council on Aging Board and the Friends of the Watertown Council on Aging.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in human services or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred; five to seven years of experience in human services, including management and work with senior citizens; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of grant-writing techniques, knowledge of the federal, state, and regional services and local resources available to senior citizens.

Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and volunteers, develop effective and constructive working relationships with senior citizens, service providers, human service agencies, citizen boards and the general public. Excellent interpersonal skills, computer skills, organizational and planning skills and supervisory skills.

Expected Starting Hiring Range:   $78,941 -92,988 DQE plus an excellent benefit package.
