The City of Watertown seeks a candidate for the Payroll Specialist in the Auditor’s Office. Under the general direction of the City Auditor, this position is responsible in the administrative clerical duties pertaining to payroll functions. The payroll specialist is responsible for the bi-weekly generating and processing of payroll for all City employees. Maintains accurate database for the processing of payroll including entering new employee information, updating employees’ changes, maintaining voluntary deductions, additional wages and general maintenance of the MUNIS database as requested. Receives, confirms, and processes all reported hours for employees. Receives, reviews for compliance, interprets, organizes, and processes payrolls for all new hires, terminations, leaves of absences, insurance deductions, retirement and status and tax changes. Generates and prints all payroll vendor and employee checks. Reports new hires to the state as required by law. Reconciles and uploads all ACH deposits for all employees with direct deposits of their pay and check files to the bank in a timely manner. Prepares and distributes several reports in accordance with varied federal and state requirements. Updates all federal and state tax tables. Research historical payroll information. Assists walk-in employees or managers with any payroll questions. Generates and processes W-2s annually. Serves as back up with benefits and accounts payable. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Knowledge & Ability: Knowledge in computer software and systems such as Microsoft Office 365, MUNIS or related payroll software. Ability to organize and maintain records and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate’ s Degree required; 4 to 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Expected Starting Hiring Range: The hiring range is $52,994 to $65,178 annually dependent upon qualifications and education, plus an excellent benefit package which includes pension, deferred compensation, health insurance 80% City paid premium, paid vacation, sick, personal, and holidays; flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and more.
