The City of Watertown seeks a Community Engagement Specialist to create and enhance opportunities for participatory, collaborative, and meaningful community engagement. Working under the direction of the Deputy City Manager and collaboratively with all members of the City Manager’s office, this position will be responsible for ensuring that engagement opportunities are accessible to as broad and diverse an audience as possible and for helping constituents and stakeholders feel they have a voice in their community’s future.

The Community Engagement Specialist will develop robust relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and community partners and develop outreach strategies to engage constituents who have not typically been involved in City government. They will identify and implement new and emerging practices in community engagement and work with City departments to develop community engagement strategies for their work. They will communicate complex information in a variety of mediums to a broad audience; produce written and graphic communication material for a variety of purposes; develop and administer online tools for community engagement; and design and facilitate community events, meetings, and focus groups. They will work with the City Manager’s office to develop a policy for interpretation and translation services for community engagement.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Art/Design, Communications, Education, or related field; a minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a municipal or government setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge & Abilities: Knowledge of best practices in public and community engagement; basic understand of municipal government; ability to organize and facilitate community meetings and to create communication materials that are accessible to a broad and diverse audience; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize work and handle multiple projects simultaneously; proficient with Microsoft office Suite and at least one digital design platform or Photoshop. 

SALARY: $58,400 to $64,815 annually, plus excellent benefits
