The Health Department is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Health Officer Pest Enforcer. Under the general direction of the Chief Environment Health Officer, this position is responsible in ensuring the health and safety of the residents within the City of Watertown through regulating the pest control and sanitation. This position is responsible for the carrying out measures for protecting public health, including administering and enforcing local and state laws and regulations related to environmental health by performing sanitary inspections of food establishments, pools, housing, tanning establishments, and other establishments to ensure compliance with state and local standards and regulations; conducts housing inspections in response to complaints and prepare letters to landlords to seek corrections. Investigates public nuisances, such as complaints concerning rodents, roaches, and mosquitos. Investigates pest infestations and advises on control/eradications actions. May participates in emergency prepares initiatives related to food security and shelter operations. May involve with updating and maintaining the department website. Attend meetings and seminars and represents the department at meetings and hearings. Regular attendance at work is an essential duty. Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health, biology, chemistry, or related field; one year of related experience in public health or environmental health; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license, MA pest control operators license (or ability to acquire within one year.)
Knowledge & Ability: Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures. Knowledge of pest control, rodent biology, and control methods. Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to public health, sanitation, and environmental health; working knowledge of current inspection and control procedures; specialized knowledge of physical science. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to prepare technical reports.
SALARY: $66,041.05-$74,330.95 annually, commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits
