About the position:  

Reporting to the Unit Director, the Associate Research Director (ARD) position is an exciting new role on JFF’s Research and Analytics Unit, that plays a critical role in leading research and evaluation activities that inform JFF’s program and policy efforts, support our strategic objectives and strengthen our influence in the field.  

In this role, you will lead learning activities that provide insight into the implementation, outcomes, and impact of workforce development interventions that promote racial equity and economic mobility. We will rely on you to evaluate interventions embedded in sector-based strategies, IT pathways development, work-based learning, and other approaches to promoting learner and worker advancement 

As the Research and Analytics Unit is a developing entity within JFF, you will have the opportunity to contribute to resource development and strategic thinking. This important work guides the unit, as well as contribute to processes that enhance our productivity and ability to create and share new knowledge. You will work closely with other JFF units to develop and engage in research and evaluation activities that inform and support their work and you will partner with external stakeholders on research and evaluation as needed.  


What you’ll do:   

Research and Evaluation Activities 

Lead research and evaluation on topics that advance JFF’s learning in the area of workforce development, working independently and/or leading teams 
Determine and implement appropriate quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods to achieve project goals 
Lead report writing and data visualizations for research dissemination 
Lead the development of new research and evaluation proposals to support the work of our unit, and stay up to date on content knowledge and trends  
 Project Management  

Lead research and evaluation activities from design through achievement of goals, including direction and management of small teams of researchers 
Develop and execute workplans, timelines, and budgets to ensure project success and high quality, timely deliverables 
Contribute to project dissemination so that our work extends its reach internally and externally, including presenting at conferences or other forums 
 Strategic and Analytical Thinking 

Participate in strategic planning to identify, shape and support the achievement of unit goals 
Identify research topics, trends and questions that can provide new insights and strengthen JFF’s leadership in the fields of education and workforce development 
Work with JFF program staff to develop research activities to inform and enhance JFF’s program and policy work 

Develop a range of products (e.g., reports, blogs, infographics and journal articles) and tools (e.g., data visualization, quantitative/qualitative software) to communicate results, enhance the quality and efficiency of our work and allow us to more effectively reach our target audiences 
Ensure effective and accurate communication of research results to a range of audiences including practitioners, policymakers and researchers through products and presentations 


Who you are:   

You ideally have 10-12 years of experience leading research or evaluation in workforce development or related fields, preferably with strong knowledge and understanding of federal workforce programs and national and state workforce initiatives 
You have experience developing, piloting, recruiting for, and fielding surveys, focus groups and interview protocols for research and evaluation 
You have experience collecting, cleaning, managing, and analyzing quantitative data including knowledge of statistical software (i.e. Stata, R2, SPSS); experience with data visualization tools is a plus (e.g., Tableau) 
You bring experience analyzing qualitative data including coding for themes and analyzing themes for findings and the development of promising practices for the field. 
You are comfortable leading project teams and working with both internal and external partners to produce high quality deliverables 
You have strong communication skills, and can tell a story around your data 
You possess high energy and passion for JFF’s mission; ability to apply JFF’s core values to all areas of your work
