GBFB is considered an essential response organization in times of disaster. As such, Team Members are expected to report to GBFB locations as required, after securing the safety of their families, and may be asked to perform duties that are critical (but outside of their regularly assigned duties) in times of disaster.

Position Summary: 
As part of a dynamic and evolving organization, the Senior Director of Development will lead a team of senior level major gift managers who are responsible for cultivating relationships and managing the stewardship of high-net-worth individuals capable of making major and leadership gifts for current use. The Senior Director will manage the Donor Stewardship Coordinator, develop strategic cases for support and proposals as a resource for the team, and have oversight of the Sustainer program. The Senior Director of Development will collaborate with the Senior Directors of Individual and Institutional Development in the overarching strategies of the front-line fundraising effort to ensure maximum use of resources to optimize fundraising and meet the annual KPI. Knowledge of Planned Giving a plus.

The Senior Director must have experience maximizing fundraising through moves management, prospect review, effective use of research and donor analytics, and developing strategic approaches for caseload donors.  Experience with Sustainer and/or related direct marketing/fundraising programs. 

Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management:  35%

Manage a portfolio of high capacity, high-net-worth donors working with a base of donors giving a minimum of $20,000, ensuring a best-in-class donor experience.
Coordinate with the Research Manager and the Senior Directors of Development to review and assign donors to Relationship Managers who will advance relationships with these individuals who have the capacity to make a significant philanthropic investment in GBFB. Donors and prospect may include corporations and family foundations.
Develop and implement appropriate and effective strategies to produce successful outcomes, including in-person/virtual visits and strategic follow-up leading to successfully closing major gifts for the achievement of revenue goals. Support major gifts and 
Manage ongoing cultivation and stewardship of donors and other constituent data in Salesforce.
Work with GBFB leadership team to ensure donors are managed and stewarded consistently.
Supervisor and Management of Major Gifts Team: 35%

Provide day-to-day supervision of team of four including three Senior Major Gifts Managers and the Stewardship Coordinator and management of the Sustainers program.
Ensure team completes all required HR trainings and development opportunities, including annual engagement survey, pulse survey and others as needed. 
Attention to staff training and development around moves management ensuring that each team member is developing skills needed to execute on this new model.
Conduct formal staff supervision and ongoing communication as needed to advance work and promote a culture that reflects the values of the organization. 
Lead annual and mid-year evaluations of the team and provide and receive ongoing feedback regarding employee performance.
Ensure all staff issues are addressed properly, efficiently, and judiciously, and keep track of progress until resolved.
Coordinate execution of the performance management process ensuring that each member is evaluated on an annual basis and that informal feedback is a norm and delivered as needed.
Participate and/or lead cross-functional team meetings, and actively participate in Advancement Team meetings.
Strategy and Case for Support Development 20%

Provide leadership and guidance relative to developing strategic cases for support and proposals as a resource for the major gifts team. As needed with existing resources from the Community Impact Team and Communications, guide the team to effectively present compelling solicitations.
Planning and Development:  10%

Active and consistent team member performance management.
Leadership and active participation in the strategic planning process and ongoing plan execution. 
Responsible for team’s budget planning and ongoing management.
Lead and model organizational values and represent the Development Team in appropriate groups, meetings, sessions as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated experience using moves management to build relationship from cultivation to solicitation through ongoing stewardship to secure leadership and major.
Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills with strong aptitude for relationship building and management.
Proven track record of effectively interacting with organizational leadership and resources.
Experience with performance management. 
Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.
Strong project management and/or facilitation skills.
Effective, versatile and action oriented.
Excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written. Ability to perform and communicate in a highly professional manner.
Highly organized with great attention to detail.
Curiosity coupled with strong research/analytical skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently, including the ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and problem solving to complete assignments.
Strict discretion and sensitivity in maintaining confidentiality.
Mandatory Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree a plus. 
Minimum 10 years of relevant Development/fundraising experience
Proven ability to secure 5- and 6-figure leadership and major gifts, including multi-year gifts.
Five or more years of supervisory experience required, in addition to years of relevant Development/fundraising experience
Experience in project leadership/management or facilitation role
Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Salesforce and/or Raiser’s Edge database experience preferred.
Ability to work within the construct of a remote environment, and to supervise and motivate staff members who work remotely.
Ability and willingness to travel within Massachusetts.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit up to 3 hours at a time.
Ability to work within in an open air/cubicle environment.
