Position Summary

Responsible for analyzing and interpreting monthly and annual financial information.  Guide General Ledger Accountant in reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and analysis.  Ensure the Longwood Collective and associated organizations complete all required accounting activities including annual and internal audits.  Provide analytical support to management by preparing reports and performing special projects. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly and quarterly variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations and prepare and input standard journal entries.  
  • Gather and research financial information for input to the general ledger and for use in all financial reporting needs; validate data for posting to the General Ledger, research errors/omissions, provide for full supporting documentation of data used.
  • Assist with quarterly close and annual audit.  Prepare year-end schedules as assigned.  Assist in the annual audits of the Longwood Collective affiliates.
  • Follow up with management on unexplained budget variances.  Attend meetings with management/customers to explain budget and departmental performance.
  • Implement internal control procedures relating to automated systems, manual record keeping, and documentation requirements.
  • Technically adept in order to develop and test needed reports and process for budget, forecast and Docuware.  Communicate with management and software consultant to establish proper reporting.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems and maintain contacts within and outside the team.
  • Review budget variance analysis prepared by the General Ledger Accountant.
  • Provide backup coverage for payroll as needed. 
  • Prepare monthly interest income schedule.  Track discounts and premiums paid, unrealized and realized gains, and losses and dividends.
  • Prepare forecasts for multiple customers.  Update the forecast models for actual activity and meet with management to project remainder of the fiscal year.  Review forecast versus budget for trends.
  • Perform budget analysis and monthly trend and variance analysis.  Create and maintain ad-hoc reports and design and execute analysis to support both operations and administration as requested. 
  • Develop Excel macros with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to automate data processing for the team.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide backup coverage for receivables and payables processing as needed.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (Unless otherwise noted) 

  •  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting and financial experience. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.Strong spreadsheet skills, including macros with VBA and consolidations.  Previous ADP payroll, Microsoft Dynamics, Management Reporter and DocuWare software experience desired. 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details.  Ability to produce and analyze moderate to complex reports or data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present clear, concise, and timely communications through multiple methods.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment when carrying out assignments and in escalating issues, problems or exceptions to policy and practice.
  • Ability to execute each phase of an analysis, including information gathering through oral and written communication, methodological design, and learning and translating data into clear and actionable results.
  • Ability to identify issues from a technical or business process standpoint and make recommendations for change/improvement where appropriate.
