The Town of Concord Public Works is managed by a progressive and innovative department that will provide the successful candidate with exposure and experience in the practice of the varied elements of civil engineering. Under the direction of professional engineers, candidate will perform field data collection, project design and construction observation on roadway, sidewalk, stormwater and utility projects. Pay range: $15.00 – $20.00/hour, starting pay based on qualifications.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week; May 2023 – September 2023. Work schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Candidates must have a valid Driver’s License, AutoCAD skills, good communication skills, positive attitude and ability to work unsupervised. Education requirement: 2 years or more in a BS Civil Engineering college program.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of Concord Public Works engineers, provides technical support for the Engineering Division’s in the development, implementation and permitting of road and utility projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.
· Field Data Collection: surveys using total station equipment; collects infrastructure features using GPS equipment; maps data using ARCGIS.
· Design and Analysis: engineering designs, calculations, cost estimates, AutoCAD drafting and reports on roads, sidewalks, crosswalks, drainage, stormwater management, utility and other road-related projects.
· Construction permitting, inspection and reporting

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience that provides the ability to perform functions is qualifying. A typical example of this is:
· 2 years or more in a BS Civil Engineering college program with courses taken in surveying, AutoCAD and materials; experience in technical writing and spreadsheet data manipulation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be a quick learner, reliable, flexible, self-motivated, good attention to detail, good record-keeping skills and possess the ability to follow instructions accurately
· Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Power Point
· Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License Class D required with possible use of personal vehicle for transportation during working hours; mileage reimbursement will be provided
· Good communication skills and a positive attitude
· Ability to work unsupervised
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Computer Skills – AutoCAD Civil3D, ESRI ArcGIS
· Practical experience in surveying and construction material testing
· Classes in the design of highways, pavement mix, concrete, drainage and stormwater management
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear. Uses hands to finger, handles, feel or operates objects, tools or controls and reaches with hands and arms as in picking up paper, files and other common offices objects. Employee may infrequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds such as tools, equipment, supplies, etc. Employee must be able to access all levels of a construction site and traverse uneven terrain. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.
Administrative work is performed in a normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc. Moderate physical effort generally required to perform work in the field. Periods spent outside subject to weather conditions while inspecting or directing work. Work is performed in a moderately noisy work environment, with constant
interruptions. Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.
Operates computer, printer, video display terminal, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and all other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
